Walker Zanger Tatami Collection Tiles and Mosaics

Japanese architecture represents a dialogue between texture and light. What at first appears sparse and serious often reveals a fascinating vocabulary of textural details, as can be found in rice-paper shoji screens, bamboo fencing and woven grass floor coverings. Taking inspiration from this Eastern palette is the Tatami Collection from Walker Zanger: a graceful re-envisioning of Zen sensibilities in hand-crafted limestone tiles and mosaics.

Fireclay Tile Claymonde Tile

Fireclay Tile Claymonde are exquisite sheets of ceramic color, developed through a proprietary ceramic rolling process that allows Claymonde to be ultra thin yet also a durable, futuristic, lightweight, straight-edged large format wall tile. The ceramic sheet rolling method makes the tiles close to perfectly flat (~1/4" thick), while the ceramic fiber in the clay body provides some flexibility to the tile so that they can be pressed up against a flat wall surface. Fireclay hand glazes all colored pieces with their natural, lead free glazes.

Careful craftsmanship and sustainable practices go into the glazing of the Claymonde tiles in Fireclay's Northern California factory. The glazes are made in-house and are lead free. All glaze over-spray is collected and recycled - any waste they do produce is inert and non-hazardous, as are the tiles themselves. The Claymonde glazing process is designed to minimize variation, thus enhancing the contemporary look of the product.

Claymonde is available in fourteen standard glaze colors with a sleek gloss finish that creates a shiny, semi-reflective sheen. Custom colors can also be created. Claymonde is available in two standard sizes - 5¾ x 35¼" and 11 11/16 x 35¼" - and custom sizes up to 3'x6' are available for orders over 600 square feet.

Ann Sacks Serpentine Metal Tile

Ann Sacks Serpentine tile collection features six striking mosaics that combine uncommon materials in an new way by pairing German silver, a sleek metal alloy, with serpentine, a semi-precious, milky white stone.

Serpentine is offered in 6x12 border and 12 x12 field tile sizes and an array of styles; including Knuckle, Harlequin, Curves, Chain, Bricks, and Leaf. The creative patterns of glossy, polished silver and smooth stone form a surprising union, one that results in eye-catching installations suitable for both traditional and contemporary settings.

German silver is actually an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel that is valued for its hardness and resistance to corrosion. Because of its durability, German silver was used frequently in the manufacture of early automobiles, including the original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost.

Serpentine is a stone often used by sculptors, who value its hardness and the wide variety of coloration. However, the stone is rarely found in pure white, making the use of it in this application all the more unusual. In addition to its durability and creamy finish, serpentine is considered by many to be a very powerful and healing semi-precious stone. It is believed to promote balance and good fortune.

Ann Sacks Ravello Stone Tile

Ann Sacks Ravello is a rich purple stone with softly contrasting accents of soft pink and white. This regal, sophisticated stone will give character, depth and an authentic luster to any installation.

A natural stone quarried in India and available in 18x18x¾ field size and 30x72x¾ slab formats, Ravello is offered in a uniform honed finish that emphasizes the rich linear veining and cloudlike patterns.

The material is offered in two directional cuts: the Fiorito, which is also known as the “flower” or “cross” cut, and shows the more florid pattern of the stone; and the Venato, translated as the “veined” cut, which displays the bold, directional veining of the stone. Ann Sacks Obsidian Collection Glass Tiles

Ann Sacks Obsidian is a striking collection of tile is named for and made of the glass that results from the cooled lava of a volcanic eruption.

By definition, obsidian is what is left behind when the molten silica that is spewed from a volcano cools, becoming a glass boulder embedded in the earth. These boulders are then carefully dug up, cut into slabs and then smaller pieces, which are polished to a high sheen. The result is some of the strongest material known to man.

Ann Sacks has taken this unusual substance and used small, highly polished, finely cut bricks of it to form intricate Herringbone, Brick and Weave mosaics. The tiles are available in mesh mounted mosaics in 1x1, 2x2, 1x4 Herringbone, 1x4 Offset Brick, and 1x4 Weave with 1x1 Dot, as well as a 1/2x6 random length. It is also offered in loose pieces of 4x4 and 2x8.

Obsidian is available in four color varieties: Raven, a pure jet black; Sterling, a metallic gray; Mercury, a deep, reflective silver; and Burlwood, a rich red-brown hue that recalls a the highly polished dashboard of an antique Jaguar.

Obsidian is ideal for striking wall or backsplash installations and can be used in indoor and outdoor applications. As a glass product, however, it is not recommended for use on the floor.
